Learn the ancient Native American art of porcupine quill embroidery. This style of decoration has been used for hundreds of years by the original people of the great Lakes, and east coast regions of the U.S.

Examples have even been found in the plains. The art of sewing porcupine quills into leather is a beautiful and intricate thing. It is a skill that very few people possess today. The hours that go into some of these masterpieces can be a little overwhelming for a lot of people, so we will start with a small, simple project.

We will learn the basic zig-zag stitch, and the straight line stitch. We will be sewing a small bag out of brain tanned deer hides, and practicing our quillwork on these bags!
