Twining Cordage & Knots

The ability to make rope and string out of plants that grow in our natural environment is one of the most essential skills that you can learn. Nettles, and milkweed make very strong cordage, spruce roots can be the string on a bow drill. We need rope and cordage in order to create a comfortable living situation for ourselves.

In this 1/2 day work shop we will cover the plants that make good cordage. How to harvest and process them, and how to make those fibers into rope. We will show you some basic knot craft, and a weaving process called twining. The basic skills are the strong root system from which a tree grows and gains its strength.
